When the new term starts in November, the mayor will receive $30,000 a year. The council president will earn $18,000 a year and other council members will have an annual salary of $12,000.

The Limestone County Commission and the Athens City Council on Monday approved $22 million in tax abatements and other incentives for a proposed steel plant near Calhoun Community College that will employ about 200 people in its first phase, The Athens News Courier reported.
